Livestreaming

Posted on March 28, 2020 in: General News

NEWSFLASH   We have received and installed the equipment necessary for live-streaming.   This  morning,  Saturday the 28th at 8:15 Mass, we successfully accomplished our first live-streamed Mass.  We had, for a little better than a week been recording it with the very advanced instrument known as "Fr. Jim’s I phone 6".  Everything is much better now other than the celebrant. He remains a work in progress. So, we invite you to join us tonight 3/28 at 5pm Fr. Charlie will preside and tomorrow 3/29 at 9am Fr. Jim will preside. We hope it will mean a...

We are forced now, in this slow motion challenge, to find out some truths about who we are, what we stand for, what the nature of our character is, and whether we are willing to become what God has made us to be. I am now daily looking at our parish data base, just names and addresses, pictures if they are there.  Church law tells me you are my responsibility, my heart tells me you are my parish family, so in your absence, this enforced absence which we firmly hope will slow the virus from overwhelming our medical system, I need to remember, to see with my mind’s eye, you my brothers and sisters, old and youn...

4th Week of Lent - God is Good

Posted on March 27, 2020 in: General News

Isaiah 65: 17-21 I am about to create a new heavens and a new earth….. What does it mean for us to live in a world both wondrous and wild? Grace-filled and pock marked by the effect of sin? Lovely and dangerous?  It is not for the faint of heart. We are not in charge, God is good, and God’s goodness is in us and meant to grow through us in this world.  When we embrace salvation, redemption, when we respond to God’s goodness then the new heavens and new earth promised by the prophets continues to emerge, to evolve, to grow. Most of us think God is good when things are good, and when the...

God’s way to greatness is to serve, if I would be the greatest, I would be slave to all Mt. 20: 26-27.  Jesus on the road to Jerusalem instructs his disciples to follow him the suffering servant of the Lord to Jerusalem, to Calvary, to the tomb, to the Resurrection, to newness of life.  Our call to deal with the structural and systemic causes of poverty is not only right, it is needed it is necessary.  Good public policy depends on commitment to recognizing the dignity of all, and choosing to enhance that which promotes equality, opportunity, and decency. God knows in these days of enforced isolatio...

Spiritual Communion

Posted on March 27, 2020 in: General News

Spiritual Communion
Spiritual Communion First let me tell you that in ordinary times I think the concept of Spiritual Communion is not helpful.  I mean after all we work hard to get even cradle Catholics to know and accept that Holy Communion is REALLY the body and blood of Christ Jesus under the form of bread and wine.  It is not spiritual, it is REAL.  And given what we believe about the sacrament of the Eucharist, we say that it undoes what we do during Mass if we don’t go to Communion.  We come to be fed, by the word and by the Body and Blood of Christ, we brin...

Anointing of the Sick

Posted on March 25, 2020 in: General News

Anointing of the Sick
The Anointing of the Sick As you are fully aware the world has been turned upside down.  It has impacted our parish in many ways most telling surely is our cancelling all public Masses.  The corona virus has put us on a Eucharistic fast.  It also has impacted how we are available and able to anoint someone who is seriously ill or in danger of death (the only people we can anoint or give communion to during the pandemic).  Most hospitals are in security / privacy mode where visitors are not permitted.  We are asked to stay home.  If someone i...

A message from Fr. Jim and the parish staff
As a people who love the Lord and one another we are called to respond sacrificially in times of crisis.  We are instructed by leadership at the church, local, state and federal level to shut down in order to lower the risk of contagion, helping our medical personnel and system and helping those most vulnerable our elders and those with medical challenges. And so The ENTIRE St. Catherine Laboure Parish Campus is now closed until further notice. This includes the Church, Adoration Chapel and all buildings and fields.  The church is a place of prayer but al...
