A Message from Fr. Jim and staff

All of us hope and pray that the effects of the pandemic will soon begin to fade and heal.  But hoping is not enough, we are required to respond to these unhappy circumstances with prudent choices that place the health and well being of all who come here first, especially the most vulnerable: our beloved seniors and those with health challenges, along with all medical personnel sacrificing so much for the good of all.  Even if the loosening of the lockdown continues without a second surge of the virus I deem it prudent and necessary to announce: All events that occur on the SCL campus have been cancelled up through August 1, 2020.  This includes, but is not limited to all sports, school events, parish events, meetings, rummage sale, parties, picnic, dinners, etc.
We thank you for your understanding.
Since this is so fluid a situation, we will revisit this policy monthly.  But we want you to know this so that you can plan or not plan accordingly
Fr. Jim
Some clarification:  The Archbishop determined and will determine when we can celebrate Mass publicly, this will include instructions about how many people can attend, how we do communion etc.  You are aware we have had several funerals and have confessions now, these are permitted with strict protocols.  The Catholic Ed office along with the Archbishop closed all schools through the end of the school year.
The above was our attempt to inform you about the parish plant being shut down; that is something over which we will have some discretionary choice once the lockdown phase is gradually lifted.  For example we have had a charity softball tournament in the summer over the last many years, I do not anticipate that we will be able to play ball and social distance, so the tournament is cancelled.  That said we may receive instructions from state and local leaders in the coming weeks/months, so we will amend or strengthen our policy as circumstances suggest.
The use of the plant carries with it now and in the foreseeable future clean up obligations and costs, so for both practical and health safety reasons the plant is not available for use. I’m not happy this is so, but it is.
