A message from the SCL Victory Garden

TO:  ALL VICTORY GARDEN FRIENDS
The Garden is so successful because SCL works together to help feed the poor.  Thanks to all that have done so much; from praying, digging, planting, watering, cooking, baking, delivering, sorting, packing, sanitizing, weeding, trimming and so much more.

Fellowship - Everyone is welcome to Fellowship after the 8:15 mass on Thursdays, located in the garden area weather permitting, otherwise we are in the Narthex.  Come and get acquainted with fellow parishioners.  Beginning in November through March, Fellowship will only meet the first Thursday of the month.  Come party in The Garden.

Everyone Welcome - Please spread the word, we hope to grow and get better acquainted with fellow parishioners.  There are so many avenues to participate in the garden, not just being a laborer.  All aspects are important and unique, we hope to see you soon.

Fall Update - We have reached the autumnal equinox.  The garden and our Perryville satellite location have thrived through spring, summer, and now fall.  God is good as he directs us.  So many outreach ministries, St. Vincent’s, and St. Pius just to name a few have benefited from our SCL Victory Garden.  Fall veggies have been planted and are growing.  Summer vegetables are still being harvested.

Upcoming -

October 5 -  SCL day school students will plant garlic for next year's harvest.

Mid-October - Sweet potato vines will be cut in preparation for harvesting the potatoes.

October 19 - SCL students who planted sweet potatoes last spring will harvest potatoes.

Week of October 23 - Wood chips to be delivered to cover the garden walking area.

October 27 - Wood chip spreading with the SCL 8th grade Lunch and Learn students.

Early November - The garden will be closed for the winter.  Compost, manure, and straw will be placed.  Speaking of straw, we will need 10-12 bales. If anyone is willing to donate the bales if they have them left from Halloween it would be greatly appreciated. Many hands will be needed for this project.
