About Each Sport

GENERAL ELIGIBILITY: SCL will field teams in the sports of Baseball, Softball, Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, Golf and Track. Said sports will be available for participation by any child registered in the parish, attending our day school, living within the parish boundaries or if a player attends a public school, the player can play for any parish whose parish boundaries fall within the boundaries of that player’s public grade school.. Children outside these areas are welcome provided there is roster space available and they get proper permission from the South County District. Each of the above sports will be played under the guidelines established by the Catholic Youth Council (CYC), with emphasis on instruction, sportsmanship, and providing an atmosphere where each child can develop their full potential in learning the game.

DETAILS ABOUT SCL SPORTS FEES:

REGISTRATION FEE: The current fee structure for participation within the SCL Athletic Association is as follows: $120 registration fee for baseball, softball, basketball, soccer, and volleyball for the first child. There is a $30 registration fee for track and no concession fee is charged. The golf fee varies and is established at registration each year.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE SPORT

Program Statement

Players will be introduced to the sport of golf with the hope that a lifelong interest will be built. Each player will learn the basic rules of golf, receive instruction on golf etiquette, be instructed on proper stroke and play by local USGA teaching pros, and participate in tournament play at Tapawingo National Golf Club

Number of Accepted
This program is open to all which wish to register online at the St. Catherine website.

District
St. Catherine Laboure will participate this year with other parishes from the South County District of the CYC.

Parent Participation
In keeping with the St. Catherine Laboure parish family participation philosophy, each family will be required to volunteer for each event throughout the season. There will be many responsibilities at each instructional session and each tournament. Golf tournaments require many volunteers from scorekeepers to marshals to starters to check in responsibilities. Adults will be required to walk with each foursome on each course. Without the volunteers, the events will not be possible.
Therefore as a requirement to sign up, each family will be required to acknowledge this participation. Families that do not meet their obligations, harm the program. Players will be removed from the program if the family obligations are not met.
We will assign age group and gender coordinators to be responsible for that particular group at each event. This is only a coordinator, not a coach or babysitter. They will be expected to get players ready for practices and tournaments.
As part of the Archdiocese requirement, each parent volunteer will have to have completed the Prevent and Protect program.

Tournament Spectators
Spectators will be allowed to follow players but will be asked to abide by golf etiquette rules. Unruly behavior will result in being asked to leave the golf course. Adults shall be required to have completed the Archdiocese Protecting God’s Children Program to be allowed to walk with the players.

Parent/Player Orientation Seminar
A parent/player seminar will be held at SCL prior to the season to be introduced to the SCL Golf Program. This is a mandatory requirement. At least 2 dates will be set up as soon as possible.
The program will be reviewed those nights as well as a review of golf terms and terminology and the rules and instructions for all of the events. Scoring will be reviewed.
A review of golf etiquette ad the golf attire requirement will also be given.

Etiquette
At the first instructional night, a brief etiquette class will be given to explain the rules and etiquette of golf as well as the rules of the driving range. We will also review some golf course rules, additional golf terms, and remind the players of safety and caution.
All players will be required to pay attention. Listen to all rules. No horse-play will be accepted. Children that disobey and show disregard with the rules will be removed from the program.
